Hey everyone--I figured there ought to be some kind of announcement so people don't panic.

I'm taking care of Sn Colonel Mustang's dragon from now on. His name is Havoc--he's red and pretty big so you'll probably see him around in the sky sooner or later. He lives in a cavern under one of the islands.

He does not eat people and he won't eat any pets either, including chocobos and griffins. Actually he seems to like fighting some of the giant bugs that live in the upper branches, but the farm is also going to leave out a livestock animal once a week for him.

Havoc's also something of a showoff so if you see him blowing smoke or fire, don't worry. He's just being silly.

...I guess it's appropriate that the outfit I'm wearing today has dragon wings on it. Maybe I can use this wooden sword for something, too.

Oh! Gene, there was something I wanted to ask you. Are you real busy these days?

[ooc: Cara is dressed like a Gria Raptor from FFTA2, complete with fake horns, wings, and tail.]

"Oh so that's where I left that one"

Hmm. I'd wondered where that dragon went. It is fortunate to see it in good hands.

Stop leaving your toys around, Lezard

Yeah. I think he'll be fine.

I must ask if there are measures to keep this Havoc from the pastures where the livestock grazes. Is he intelligent enough to refrain from killing more than he is able to eat?

There was great disturbance some days ago, when someone's companion animal infiltrated one of the poultry sheds and killed all of the birds within.

Of course. He's not an instinctual predator like some dragons--he knows enough not to randomly pick things off.

And I can tell you that wasn't Havoc. There wouldn't be a whole lot of shed left if it was.

[ping because OH GOD RED DRAGONS]

Well, since he has been around here for so long without incident, I can't complain, and you know more of this dragon than I.

[paaause.]

I know you'll be careful, so there's no reason for me to urge you to be so. Good luck with Havoc.

[Red + dragon was a badping for her too, initially. FLEE FLEE FLEE.]

Thanks. He's really not so bad, once you get to know him! Maybe you should meet him sometime.

I think I should as well.

...How large is "pretty big"?

Date: 2010-07-12 08:48 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] feathered-earth.livejournal.com
Um... [pentaps for thinking.] The size of a section 1 house, maybe?

[ooc: Reference (http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm139/s3x5hun8/RedDragon.jpg)! Havoc is "huge" sized, not "gargantuan." Fortunately.]

...Is he done growing, do you think?

[ooc: no joke o_o]

I think we just have to wait and see.

So it's an actual dragon? And here I thought there was some codeword inside joke I'd missed.

Date: 2010-07-12 08:49 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] feathered-earth.livejournal.com
Yep! An honest-to-goodness real dragon.

I suppose I should stop being surprised by the stuff that turns up around this place. A genuine fire-breathing dragon, though, that's pretty impressive.

From: [identity profile] feathered-earth.livejournal.com
Dragons seem pretty normal to me, though there aren't a whole lot around here. But he definitely is impressive!

Date: 2010-07-12 09:01 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] seeya-next-life.livejournal.com
Normal is so much more relative here than most places.

Maybe me and Havoc can blow smoke rings together sometime--wouldn't mind being able to say I'd shot fire with a dragon.

Careful, he'll turn it into a competition.

Sounds like my kind of dragon.

...Giant dragon? And it blows smoke to be silly. Right.

The thing won't be following you around by any chance, will it?

And no busier than usual, why?

Well, he's a dragon. He's got to let off steam somehow. And no, he won't be following me around--well, maybe every so often.

Could you help me learn how to shoot better?

Date: 2010-07-12 11:36 pm (UTC)
live_ringer: (When you would sing that song for me.)
From: [personal profile] live_ringer
Blow off steam? Cute.

[He's pretty sure he'll just. Avoid the dragon. Whenever possible.]

Eh? Sure thing. Though, I'm a little surprised. I'd have thought your co-worker would be a more convenient choice.

[It's a punny day for her apparently. And Havoc is adorable dang it.

...well okay not adorable but geez, you people.]

Nah, I think he goes to the range at the wrong times. Anyway, weren't you teaching a whole crowd of people the other week?

live_ringer: (Grey skies are gonna clear up.)

Fair enough. I suppose I should have the instruction bit down by now, eh?

What times are good for you? I've got room to shift my hours around, a bit.

Here's hoping it stuck.

Works for me. I'll see you then.

You're communicating with the dragon? Listen, can I ask

[He stops, perturbed. You have no idea what a ping this is.]

Date: 2010-07-13 06:51 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] feathered-earth.livejournal.com
Ask what? I can talk to him and understand him, if that's what you mean.

Date: 2010-07-14 07:40 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] crimson-seeker.livejournal.com
That's exactly what I meant. So... is it just you, or does the dragon speak? Sorry to ask, that must seem kind of odd, but I'm having that annoying feeling where I can almost remember something, and it's [long pause] wound around that word.

Date: 2010-07-14 08:57 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] feathered-earth.livejournal.com
It's not odd! I can understand what dragons and most other animals say and talk back to them. Do you think you might be able to do that too?

Date: 2010-07-14 09:11 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] crimson-seeker.livejournal.com
That sounds like a useful skill.

So it's not actually that the dragon can speak.

That doesn't seem like a good thing to me, but I've gathered the rules are different here.

Date: 2010-07-14 09:46 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] feathered-earth.livejournal.com
I like being able to speak to animals, especially dragons. Although it's more like he doesn't speak human language.

Why wouldn't it be a good thing?

Date: 2010-07-14 10:05 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] crimson-seeker.livejournal.com
[A long pause; he writes the words like he's tasting each one.]

A dragon isn't-- driven by its instincts like a beast. They had speech and wisdom before any others. If one is reduced to acting like an animal, something's very wrong.

Date: 2010-07-14 10:23 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] feathered-earth.livejournal.com
Really? [That surprises her--she knows that certain dragons are intelligent, and that they're important, but she hadn't heard of anything like that.] I know that there are dragons that will prey on humans, and no amount of talking to them will put them off. But I thought it was just a part of what they are, like lions or scorpions.

Date: 2010-07-14 10:35 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] crimson-seeker.livejournal.com
[And to him, they're the next step down from divinities.]

That's what the word tells me, when I think about it. I don't know why, or what other things link into it. If a dragon attacked a human, there would be a reason, one it was aware of.

Like I said, it seems different rules apply here. You may be as right as I am.

Date: 2010-07-15 12:58 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] feathered-earth.livejournal.com
Where you're from and where I'm from might be very different worlds, so we probably are both right about what dragons are like.

Date: 2010-07-15 01:27 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] crimson-seeker.livejournal.com
Agreed. Thanks for answering my questions. Maybe this will go somewhere if I think on it some more.
