[There's a few sketches here. One is of Exdeath's head and shoulders, which is quickly abandoned in favor of sketching out a stout castle.

She gets about halfway through that one and then doodles a moogle or two.]

I remember everything now. At least about the past two years. Did everyone else who got amnesia have their memories return too?

And I know this is a strange question, but does anyone know much about rock and crystal? Especially in a scientific or magic way.

[Give her 40 or so years to stop caring about politeness and she will wholeheartedly agree.]

How about I visit you at work tomorrow afternoon?

Journal to Quicklog?

[The next day, Krile wraps the blobby crystal in a handkerchief and puts it in her pocket before heading down to the Scavenger's Yard. She really had no idea if there would be anyone who would know about such things, but she did want to show this to someone else to see what they thought. And Lyle seemed like a good person whether he knew about rocks or not.

And she wanted to see him anyway. When she woke up with her memories returned, it had resulted in a few minutes of confusion between Lyle and Neil, and she'd had to pick apart which was which, who was here, and who was gone. One of many things that had made the other morning a rather unhappy one.

So when she spots him in the Scavenger's Yard, she jogs over and gives him a hug.]

Hey, Lyle! How's your head feel?

Oof! [He makes a show of acting like he is nearly toppled over by the hug before returning it with the addition of a quick hair ruffle. Things had been so many different levels of tense, awkward, and conflicting lately, not that he cared to show as much to anyone not directly involved. As a result, it was a relief to spend time with someone with whom his relationship was relatively uncomplicated.]

Less empty than it was a couple of days ago. And your own?

[She grins and gives him a light poke. She has no idea what Lyle's amnesia days were like--her own were actually pretty easy and chipper, which was disturbing in its own right when she got it all back.

Still, she's glad that she remembers now and even happier to see a friend.]

Kind of stuffed, but I like that better.

[She lets go and fishes in her pocket for the crystal, unwrapping it. It's about the size of a lime, with the suggestion that it might once have been fingers, but only if you knew that's what it had been.]

This is what I was talking about.

That is interesting. It looks like melted glass... Where'd you find it?

It used to be a hand from one of the statues on Crystala. Paladin and I went there a few months ago. A lot of them looked half-melted like this.

[Which is why she wanted to talk about it here, rather than in the journal--given the reason they'd made that expedition.]

[Lyle had met with many a friend in the S-Yard to talk about clandestine matters. He'd never had such a talk with Krile, so it hadn't occurred to him that was the nature of this. Though the mention of Crystala got a raised brow.]

Multiple statues melted? That doesn't sound like the sort of thing that could just happen naturally. [Then again, what WAS natural about this place?] My first thought is that it could be one of those dragons that roams around here. But could one actually sustain a flame long enough and hot enough to melt this?

[He knew next to nothing about the dragons around here. With Krile being the resident expert on those, so he figured she'd be able to weigh in on their capabilities.]

Quicklog - that is a pretty cool icon

[Krile shook her head. She'd considered the possibility, but it didn't line up.]

I don't think so. Even if they could, nothing looked burnt. There were no scorch marks or anything, and it wasn't like the melting was concentrated in one spot. It was more like... ice melting, I think. But anything we touched felt completely solid, and that piece I broke off hasn't changed since I've had it.

[She shakes her head, looking a little unhappy about having to admit it. Of course, a lot has been going on, but that's always true. It's too easy to be distracted.]

No, but I will. I want to see if they've melted any more... I've been to Crystala a few times, but I'd never seen that before.

It might actually be better that you've waited. If the rest of the statues have melted a good bit more but this hasn't you'll know it has to do with something on the island.

Hm... that's true. It'd mean that whatever was going on only affects Crystala.

[For a moment, she wonders whether or not to tell him if the aura of the place seemed lessened, too... it sounds silly to say out loud, but it might be relevant.]

It felt different, too. Whenever I'd been there, it was--lonely. Even though I've never been there on my own, I felt like I was the only one and I needed to leave right away. This time, it wasn't as strong a feeling.

[His brows drew together as she spoke.]

I know the feeling you're talking about, actually.

[It's part of the reason Lyle's never been back. ...That and the giant frog monster, even if he and Kazahana had dispatched it.]

I half thought that was just me when I felt it but... huh. If it's a common thing, then maybe there's a more supernatural force at work.

[Giant frog monsters can be quite offputting.]

Oh, I didn't realize you've been there--I thought so too at first, but it's different. [As far as she knows, the first time she went was to look for Tatsu, who'd gone missing, so she had reason to feel that way anyhow.] With that aura and the monsters, I think there has to be something important there.

[They can ruin your whole day, I tell you.]

It's entirely possible. [He knew that he had encountered something significant there, but it almost seemed circumstantial, rather than tied into the place. It was hard to tell, though.] But if the 'aura' you mention is lessening... do you think it's a sign that whatever the important thing is has started to move on?

...It could be. The monsters were still plenty hungry, but if the thing that put them up to guard is moving or doing something else, that could mean there are less of them now.

[She rocks back and forth on her heels thoughtfully.]

It would be a good idea to go back and see if it really has changed more since then.

That, or if the monsters or self sustaining and have just been left there, whatever put them there might not care about relocating them.

[He hooked a thumb into the belt loop by his holster.]

If you need anyone to go with you, I'm game.

[It would probably be best to go with Paladin if he saw the state of the place the first time. But if the other man wasn't available, he wanted Krile to have backup if she needed it.]

Hm... if it's gone somewhere else then I think it would take the monsters. But if it's not doing... whatever it's doing...

[She trails off. The only way to really know is to go back there, of course. She nods, her thoughts running along the same lines.]

All right. I'll ask Paladin too. Maybe we can find something that makes sense.
